You need a stock broker. On the exchange floor, your stock broker knows what channels to go through to purchase your stock. He has the means and connections to circulate your order out on the stock trading floor. He will get the final price of the stock back to you. As far as electronic stock trading, you should have a broker if you are inexperienced. He will have access to the electronic markets. He can access the stock exchange network so that the system can find a seller or buyer according to your preference.
