Recidivism and Megan’s law

There are many instances of offenders repeating their crimes even after they have been charged and punished for the same. This is the essence of recidivism; it is in order to protect people from recidivist tendencies that Megan's law was enacted. The small child, Megan Kanka was brutally murdered after being physically and sexually assaulted.  If her parents had known that the man living across the street was a known sex offender with a criminal record, they would have been more careful. Unfortunately, the  Megan's law  was not in force then. Today, the law is being upheld in most states, so that children like Megan are safe.
