I have been working as the accountant for a medium sized electronics company based in Seattle, Washington for many years already. One of the aspects of my job that I always found frightening and was uncomfortable about doing was to make presentations to the board of directors every quarter on the state of the company’s finances. I know that I have not been gifted with too much charisma and I know that there have been occasions when I have succeeded in sending at least one of the members of my audience to sleep.

A couple of years ago, I was at an accountant’s conference, and one of the key subjects were on how to successfully present financial statements before a potentially critical audience. The presentation was excellent, and the speaker got his message across very well. He explained the logic and the beauty behind preparing a multimedia presentation to make the subject more dynamic and interesting for the audience. I took in everything he said and couldn’t wait to get back to put his ideas into action. Nowadays everyone in the company is talking about my quarterly presentations and can’t wait for the next one to come around.
